How to Pick the Perfect Nude Lipstick

How to Pick the Perfect Nude Lipstick

Our Crème Matte Luxe Lipsticks were developed with all skin tones and depths in mind, but which should you choose as your new classic nude? [Editors note: we would not judge you if you bought both shades.]

Both are universally flattering with a velvety matte finish, though their undertones are different. These different undertones will effect how they appear on your lips and it can be hard to decide which is the right one for you.

Often, people feel more comfortable in bold lipsticks that have a similar undertone to their skin – warmer skin tones tend to go for coral lipsticks while cooler skintones tend to go for a blue red. The same tendencies apply to nude lipsticks.

If you already know your undertone, feel free to skip to the end of this blog, however we are going to teach you a couple easy ways to determine your undertone. Colour theory is key to understanding undertones, and each of our suggestions are deeply rooted in it.

Take a look at your forearms in natural light and see what colour your veins appear. If they are blue or purple, you are probably cool toned. Do your veins have a green tint? Then you are probably warm toned.

If it’s difficult to see your veins, think of what kind of jewellery you prefer to wear. Do you find yourself reaching for gold or silver jewellery more? If gold, you are likely warm toned. If silver, you are likely cool toned.

If you’re still at a loss, try placing something pure white (like a white T-shirt or even a bit of paper) next to your face and look in the mirror. If you think it makes you look a bit washed out, you are probably cool toned. If the pure white makes your skin tone pop, then you are likely warm toned.

So, now that you have a good idea of what your undertone is, what shade of our Crème Matte Luxe Lipstick should you pick?

If you have warm undertones, you might prefer our Very Shelley lipstick. A beautiful nude brown, Very Shelley compliments warm and olive skintones perfectly. If your undertones lean cool, you might prefer Cheeky Chat, a creamy pink nude.

Whichever shade is your favourite, we recommend lining your lips with our Perfect Pout Lip Liner to add definition and extend the longevity of your lipstick. Specially formulated to compliment Cheeky Chat and Very Shelley, it is the perfect companion to your new classic nude lipstick.
